David, Mormor, Horno and the Yak; an Alphabet Mystery
Carol's first book is for children aged from 2 to 7 years old. It is about a small Swedish-American boy, David and a handmade, Irish, wooden animal alphabet puzzle that his American grandmother (Mormor) gives to him as a special gift. This gift is intended just for the two of them to play with together when they are together. The wooden puzzle described in the book is available from a small company in Ireland that makes them by hand.
David, Mormor, Horno and the Yak; an Alphabet Mystery explores the alphabet through this puzzle and its story. The boy David lived in Sweden along with his Swedish grandmother, "Farmor," while his American grandmother, "Mormor," lives in the United States. Mormor gives David a wooden animal alphabet puzzle when David is two and a half, just for the two of them to play with together. David loves putting the puzzle together and playing with his alphabet animals, from the Alligator (for "A") to the Zebra (for "Z").
David called the puzzle "Horno" and was sad when Mormor took the puzzle to the United States with her and he had to wait for her next visit to play with Horno again. David asks Mormor on every telephone call about what the animals were doing. Then, when David visits Mormor in the United States, a disaster occurs; the Yak ("Y") got lost! David was very worried. Was the Yak lonely, hungry? His telephone conversations with Mormor were all about the Yak. Mormor had to find the Yak for David!
